David Karpik, O.D.

Diplomate, American Board of Optometry. A native of Ohio, Dr. Karpik earned his undergraduate degrees from University of Dayton and then his Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University. He joined the team at Kenai Vision Center in 2014, moving from a multidisciplinary ophthalmology practice in Fairbanks. Residency trained in specialty contact lens management through Pacific University, he thrives on the challenge of difficult and medically necessary contact lens fits. Dr. Karpik is active in the advancement of optometry towards the goal of ensuring eye care is available to all Americans, regardless of status or geography. To further this goal, he is an active member of the American Optometric Association, and is on the board of directors for The Great Western Council of Optometry. He has also served eleven years on the Alaska Optometric Association board, several of which included acting as president of the state association. In his free time, Dr. Karpik enjoys spending time with his family, alpine skiing, and researching as well as sharing the history of vintage automobiles.

Kathleen Rice, O.D.

Diplomate, American Board of Optometry. Dr. Rice earned her undergraduate degree from West Virginia University and then received her Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University. She joined the team at Kenai Vision Center in 2014, moving from a multidisciplinary practice in Fairbanks. Dr. Rice maintains licensure in both Ohio and Alaska, and is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Alaska Optometric Association. She has provided needed eye care to underserved regions of the world through Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity in El Salvador and the Dominican Republic, and has enjoyed volunteering for the Special Olympics Dr. Rice enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.

Dr. Tran completed her Bachelors of Arts in Biology at Sonoma State University, and then earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern California College of Optometry. She relocated from California to join our practice at the Kenai Vision Center in 2019. She inspires to serve the community in providing exceptional vision care. Dr. Tran is a new member of Alaska Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. In her free time, she enjoys fishing, hiking, backpacking, snowboarding, and being active.
